I'm a holistic nutritionist,
What I know…
found when we achieve
balance in each aspect of our lives.
Every one of us deserves a life that is filled
with love, purpose, passion AND vitality.
We should never stop learning, growing, improving and expanding ourselves.
What I value…
i value an
attitude of gratitude
There are examples everywhere of what we can be grateful for. Too often though, we are so caught up in our lives that we simply stop seeing all that we have been given. We tend to take too much for granted. We need to learn how to actually see life’s endless blessings.
Status quo is soooo boring. Life becomes much more fulfilling when we are open to what makes us uncommon. We are all unique individuals and we need to cherish the one-of-a-kind inner and outer beauty that makes us “us”.
Finding balance is key to happiness and health. This applies to everything; work, play, sleep, exercise, food, fun and more. Although balance may seem elusive at times, achieving it is necessary if we want to be fulfilled in all areas of our life.
When we stay with what is safe and expected, we become stagnant. We need to become okay with doing things that are outside of our comfort zone. This is how we find out what great things we are truly capable of!
I know that when we learn how to flourish and thrive we become limitless.
I have witnessed the trans-formative power of learning self-care.
A little bit more about
My personal history is long and complicated (whose isn’t?). I have made many mistakes along my path (and still continue to do so). However, I am truly grateful for these “mistakes” as they have helped me to gain wisdom, strength, perspective and perseverance. I now know that we learn our most important lessons by overcoming adversity.
I have endured many trials and tribulations in my life thus far. I have been stuck in the cycle of surviving instead of thriving. I know what it is like to feel like there is no hope. I have lived through days where optimism did not exist.
In retrospect, I now understand that the personal challenges that I have faced have actually been gifts. The hardships I have experienced have illuminated my purpose and passions in life. These obstacles have ignited a strong desire within me. . .
I’m here to help others find this fortitude. I ‘m here to help empower others. I ‘m driven to show others how to live a life of greatness
How did I get here?
Well, I know that life speaks to us. At first the messages can be subtle whispers, but they will get louder if we fail to hear them.
After a series of steadily increasing signs that my life was out of balance, I finally got the message, loud and clear, in the summer of 2008.
Instead of continuing to be a passenger in my life, I decided that I was going to take charge. I was going to be the solution.
To back it up a little bit…
After an unconventional childhood (to put it nicely), my twenties were spent managing chaos -- not concentrating on my health. I had taken my wellness for granted. Nutrition and exercise were the least of my worries. As that decade drew to an end, I started struggling with a variety of health challenges.
First, I noticed that my energy levels were steadily plummeting. Then, I began catching viruses and getting minor infections much more frequently. All the while, weight gain was slowly sneaking up on me. The last straw was when I decided to go off the birth control pill - after twelve years. My body went haywire!
I started having acne for the first time in my life. I was getting facial hair when I hadn’t had any before. My weight spiked. And my period? Well I didn’t know where it went. I experienced 40 and even 60 day menstrual cycles!!!
After a series of medical visits and tests to figure out WTF was going on, I was diagnosed with PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) on that fateful day in the summer of ‘08. Before my doctor uttered those words, I hadn’t even heard of this condition.
The prognosis my gynecologist gave me felt really grim. He told me that there was no cure. He said that in order to have children, I would need to take prescription fertility drugs and afterwards I would need to resume the birth control pill (BCP) to manage my symptoms and to have regular menstrual cycles. I walked out of his office with a handful of prescriptions and little hope.
I’m naturally a bit of a rebel. SOOOO, instead of taking the advice given to me, I decided that I would no longer continue to merely be a passenger in my life. I decided that I was going to figure out the cause of my health issues and find a real solution — not simply mask and manage my symptoms! This diagnosis lit a fire in me. I resolved, then and there, that I would get to the root cause of my ailment and resolve it!
So, what happened?
I dove deep into the world of research. I found a network of women having a similar experience. I experimented with many different healing strategies. I also worked with some fantastic mainstream and alternative practitioners.
Ultimately, through nutrition, supplements, exercise and more, I restored my body to a healthy and balanced state.
My experience with PCOS brought me full circle. The lessons I learned applied to every aspect of my life. I learned that good health requires work. I learned that wellness is our greatest asset. It opened my eyes to a world of possibility. This experience was absolutely a blessing in disguise!!!
I now understood that if we don’t like something in life, we are responsible to make the necessary changes. I felt empowered. I became more confident. I was the most enthusiastic and optimistic I had ever been about my future. I desperately wanted to share with others all that I had learned.
I went back to school and earned my Diploma in Holistic Nutrition (DHN), with first class honours from the Edison Institute of Nutrition.
Since then, I have mentored and coached countless individuals towards a life of increased wellness, health and vitality. What I want most from this life, is to help others find their own Sublime State.
While I still have lots of room for improvement, I practice what I preach. I don’t expect anyone to do anything that I wouldn’t do for myself. I know that my knowledge means little if I can’t show by example. I am continually working to better myself -- but I am never seeking perfection.
My life isn't perfect (nor do I expect that it ever will be). But, did I mention that I managed to have children WITHOUT THE USE OF FERTILITY DRUGS, my cycles are regular WITHOUT THE USE OF THE BIRTH CONTROL PILL, and I’m the healthiest I’ve ever been?
Since then, I have experienced more obstacles. However, I am now much better equipped to handle whatever comes my way…
I believe that true happiness is found
when we learn how to live a life of BALANCE.
I believe that no matter what comes our way, we must continue to
ALWAYS MOVE FORWARD.
I believe that when we feel EMPOWERED
we make our lives (and our world) better.
